Description
Six wean-to-finish swine farms in Iowa, USA provided 119 biofilm samples from drinking water pipes. Gabrielle E. Doughan collected samples pre-treatment and up to 77 days post-treatment with peracetic acid, analyzing them for antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). The dataset reports 3,904 ARG instances from 115 samples, identifying 184 unique ARGs and 151 integron genes.
Use Cases
Analyze the prevalence of ARGs conferring resistance to medically important antimicrobials like aminoglycosides and beta-lactams.
Model the temporal rebound of ARG and integron gene counts after a disinfectant treatment.
Study the role of biofilms as reservoirs for antimicrobial resistance in swine production systems.
Investigate the potential for integron genes to spread multiple drug resistance in agricultural settings.
Strengths
Includes 119 samples from six farms, providing a multi-site perspective.
Reports 3,904 ARG instances and 184 unique ARGs, offering a detailed genetic profile.
Contains longitudinal data with samples collected at nine distinct time points, from pre-treatment to 77 days post-treatment.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The data is contained in a DOCX file (664.1 KB), which suggests a small, likely summary table rather than raw sequence data.
