Description
655 newly generated DNA sequences combined with previously published data form a reference library for Solenogastres, a group of shell-less marine molluscs. The library includes 531 COI, 483 16S, and 129 CytB barcodes representing an estimated 325 aplacophoran species from 642 specimens. This curated dataset, created by Emily L. McLaughlin and available on GenBank, supports systematics, ecology, and biodiversity research.
Use Cases
Species identification and discovery based on DNA barcode sequences.
Phylogenetic analysis to resolve taxonomic relationships among Solenogastres lineages.
Assessing marine biodiversity and geographic distribution patterns of cryptic molluscs.
Training or benchmarking DNA barcode reference databases for marine invertebrates.
Strengths
Integrates 655 newly generated sequences with existing data for a total of 1,143 barcodes.
Represents an estimated 325 aplacophoran species from 642 specimens, covering broad diversity.
Specimen identification uses an integrative approach combining molecular data with detailed morphological information from histology and microscopy.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for specific analytical tasks.
The 23.7 KB file size indicates a very small dataset with limited scope.
Provenance
Source
Emily L. McLaughlin; data available on GenBank.
Collection Method
Specimen identification combined molecular data with morphological information from histology, light microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy.
