A study by Tom Künnemann assessed litter decomposition dynamics in urban green spaces. Decomposition rates for eight tree and shrub litters were measured using litterbags in adjacent open and wooded lawns, with microclimate and soil properties monitored. The dataset, last updated in April 2026, indicates litter quality is a stronger driver of decomposition than the microclimatic effect of trees.
