Description
Figshare hosts a dataset from a high-throughput screen of 2,469 human miRNA mimics in A549 epithelial cells infected with S. aureus USA300. Author Pablo Castañera identified candidate miRNAs, including miR-4430, miR-147a, and miR-1249-5p, that reduce intracellular bacterial burden. The dataset includes results from network centrality analysis and RNA-seq profiling of host responses.
Use Cases
Prioritize candidate miRNAs from the screen of 2,469 mimics using network centrality analysis scores.
Validate the effect of miR-4430, miR-1249-5p, and miR-147a on intracellular bacterial burden across different S. aureus strains.
Analyze RNA-seq profiling data to examine host response pathways like STAT1- and PTAFR-associated signalling.
Correlate miRNA candidate performance with transcriptomic data on extracellular matrix organisation and integrin-mediated adhesion.
Strengths
Screens a large library of 2,469 human miRNA mimics.
Includes validation data across different S. aureus strains and epithelial cell lines.
Provides complementary transcriptomic analysis of host response pathways.
Limitations
Dataset size is small at 4.2 MB, suggesting limited raw data or summary-level results.
Unknown row and column structure makes direct analytical reuse challenging.
Data is specific to A549 epithelial cells and S. aureus USA300, limiting generalizability to other cell types or pathogens.
