Description
A clinical case series of 16 male VEXAS syndrome patients identified from 4512 consecutive patients with hematologic abnormalities at a Chinese academic hospital between June 2023 and July 2024. The data, authored by Xiang Ren and last updated in April 2026, profiles patient demographics, hematological abnormalities, systemic symptoms, organ involvement, bone marrow findings, and UBA1 gene mutation status. The study concludes VEXAS should be considered in patients with cytopenia regardless of systemic symptoms.
Use Cases
Characterizing the clinical presentation of VEXAS syndrome in a Chinese population based on described symptoms like anemia, lymphopenia, and multiorgan involvement.
Analyzing the prevalence and spectrum of UBA1 gene mutations in VEXAS patients based on the reported canonical and infrequent variants.
Studying associations between specific hematological abnormalities (e.g., cytopenia types) and systemic manifestations like skin lesions or pulmonary infiltration.
Evaluating treatment response patterns based on the described use of corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, androgens, and erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.
Strengths
Data is derived from a retrospective analysis of 4512 consecutive patients, providing a defined screening context.
Includes detailed phenotypic and genotypic profiles for 16 confirmed VEXAS patients, with specific mutation frequencies (e.g., 81.3% with canonical UBA1 variants).
Published under a permissive CC-BY-4.0 license, facilitating reuse and redistribution.
Limitations
Row count and column-level documentation are absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is from a single-center study between June 2023 and July 2024, which may limit generalizability.
The dataset is very small at 22.4 KB, indicating limited scope and sample size of 16 patients.
