Description
242 known miRNAs, including 27 members of the miR166 family, were sequenced from extracellular vesicles in the roots of the medicinal plant Huperzia serrata. The dataset, authored by Na Li and last updated in May 2026, compares vesicles from plants grown in rhizospheric soil versus sterilized peat moss, identifying 20 differentially expressed miRNAs. Results include predicted target genes and their enrichment in 295 Gene Ontology terms and 26 KEGG pathways.
Use Cases
Compare extracellular vesicle characteristics based on soil treatment conditions described in the study.
Analyze differential expression of miRNAs, such as the miR166 and miR156 families, between treated and control plant samples.
Investigate predicted target gene functions based on the 183 genes annotated via GO and KEGG enrichment analyses.
Study the role of specific metabolic pathways like 'Nitrogen metabolism' or 'Lipoic acid metabolism' in plant root vesicle signaling.
Strengths
Identifies 20 differentially expressed miRNAs (10 up-regulated, 10 down-regulated) from a set of 242 known miRNAs.
Provides functional annotation for predicted target genes across 295 Gene Ontology terms and 26 KEGG pathways.
Compares two distinct growth conditions (rhizospheric soil vs. sterilized peat moss) for the same plant species.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is very small at 12.8 KB, indicating limited scope.
