Description
30,000 square kilometres of onshore Tasmania are covered by this hydrogeological inventory. The dataset contains descriptive attribute information for spatial groundwater features, grouped into themes including location, demographics, geology, hydrogeology, and land use. It was published by the Australian Ocean Data Network and last updated in April 2026.
Use Cases
Mapping groundwater management zones based on the hydrogeology and groundwater management themes.
Analyzing the relationship between surface water and geology based on the grouped descriptive themes.
Studying land use and industry impacts on groundwater based on the environment and land use themes.
Modeling sedimentary rock layers and dolerite intrusions based on the described lithostratigraphic units.
Strengths
Covers a large spatial area of approximately 30,000 square kilometres.
Describes up to 1500 metres of sedimentary rock with distinct lithostratigraphic units.
Groups information into 11 specific thematic categories for structured analysis.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is provided in PDF format, which may require extraction for computational analysis.
