Pressure, salinity, and temperature data were collected from CTD casts by NOAA Ship RAINIER. Data were submitted by the National Ocean Service (NOS) and cover the NE Pacific region from 10 May 2001 to 20 November 2002. The data are stored in the WHOI CTD Exchange Format.
Use Cases
- Model ocean thermal structure based on temperature profiles.
- Analyze salinity gradients in the NE Pacific based on salinity data.
- Calculate water density profiles based on concurrent pressure, temperature, and salinity measurements.
- Validate regional oceanographic models based on in-situ CTD cast data.
Strengths
- Data covers a specific geographic region (NE Pacific) and a defined time period (May 2001 to November 2002).
- Data includes three core oceanographic variables: pressure, salinity, and temperature.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
