Temperature data from the North/South Atlantic Ocean, Philippine Sea, and North/South Pacific Ocean were collected between 02 February 2003 and 16 June 2003. Measurements were taken using bucket, surface seawater intake, and XBT casts from several vessels. The data were submitted by the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory as part of the Gulf of Mexico NOAA/NMFS Ship of Opportunity project.
Use Cases
- Analyze sea surface temperature variability based on measurements from multiple vessels
- Validate oceanographic models based on temperature data from bucket, intake, and XBT casts
- Study regional temperature differences based on data from the Atlantic, Pacific, and Philippine Sea
Strengths
- Data covers multiple ocean basins including Atlantic, Pacific, and Philippine Sea
- Measurements were collected using three distinct methods (bucket, intake, XBT)
- Data collection period spans over four months from February to June 2003
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Last updated 2003-05-03; freshness should be verified
