Temperature profile and nutrients data were collected using bottle casts from the POLAR DUKE and NATHANIEL B. PALMER vessels in the Ross Sea and Southern Oceans. Data collection occurred from 10 November 1997 to 12 December 1997. The data were submitted by Oregon State University (OSU) with support from the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study / Southern Ocean (JGOFS/Southern Ocean) project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean temperature gradients based on profile data
- Analyzing nutrient concentrations in Antarctic waters
- Studying seasonal biogeochemical cycles in the Southern Ocean
- Calibrating satellite-derived oceanographic measurements
Strengths
- Data collected from two dedicated research vessels (POLAR DUKE and NATHANIEL B. PALMER)
- Specific temporal coverage from 10 November 1997 to 12 December 1997
- Submitted by a known academic institution (Oregon State University)
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
- Last updated 1997-12-12 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
