From 12 January 1997 to 09 February 1997, temperature profile and nutrient data were collected via bottle casts in the Ross Sea and Southern Oceans. The data were submitted by Oregon State University (OSU) as part of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study / Southern Ocean (JGOFS/Southern Ocean) project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean temperature gradients based on profile data
- Analyzing nutrient concentrations in Antarctic waters
- Studying seasonal biogeochemical cycles in the Ross Sea
- Validating satellite-derived oceanographic data with in-situ measurements
Strengths
- Data collected over a specific 29-day period in 1997
- Spatial coverage includes the Ross Sea and Southern Oceans
- Submitted by a known institution (Oregon State University) for a specific project (JGOFS/Southern Ocean)
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Last updated 1997-02-09 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
