Temperature profile and nutrients data were collected using bottle casts from the POLAR DUKE vessel. The data collection occurred from 08 October 1996 to 06 November 1996 in the Ross Sea and Southern Oceans. The data were submitted by Oregon State University (OSU) with support from the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study / Southern Ocean (JGOFS/Southern Ocean) project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean temperature gradients based on profile data
- Analyzing nutrient concentrations in Antarctic waters
- Studying seasonal oceanographic changes in the Ross Sea
- Calibrating satellite-derived ocean temperature data with in-situ measurements
Strengths
- Data collected over a defined 30-day period from 08 October to 06 November 1996
- Submitted by a known institution (Oregon State University) with support from a major research project (JGOFS/Southern Ocean)
- Focuses on a specific geographic region (Ross Sea and Southern Oceans)
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Last updated 1996-11-06 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
