From May 22, 1975 to July 8, 1990, temperature profile data were collected primarily in the Pacific Ocean. Data were gathered using bathythermograph casts, meteorological sensors, secchi disks, and bottle casts from multiple platforms as part of the Thermal Structure Monitoring Program in the Pacific (TRANSPAC) project. Submitted by multiple institutions, the data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format.
Use Cases
- Analyze ocean thermal structure based on temperature profile data
- Study long-term temperature variability in the Pacific Ocean based on the 15-year time series
- Model ocean-atmosphere interactions based on concurrent meteorological sensor data
- Assess water clarity trends based on secchi disk measurements
- Validate oceanographic models based on standardized UBT format data
Strengths
- Data spans a 15-year period from 1975 to 1990
- Includes multiple measurement types: temperature profiles, meteorological data, and secchi disk readings
- Data were processed to a standardized NODC UBT format
Limitations
- Last updated 1990-07-08 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
