From 19 June 1986 to 11 July 1986, temperature-depth profiles were collected via expendable bathythermograph (XBT) and bathythermograph (BT) casts from the NOAA Ship RESEARCHER in the North Atlantic Ocean. The data were processed by the National Oceanographic Data Center into the Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format, which records temperature at non-uniform 'inflection points' to capture the profile curve efficiently. This dataset provides a snapshot of ocean thermal structure from a specific cruise, useful for historical oceanographic analysis.
The UBT format stores temperature at non-uniform inflection points, not at uniform depth intervals, though output can be requested interpolated to uniform increments.
