Temperature data from 473 XBT casts collected in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea from April 02, 2012 to June 10, 2012. The data were collected and submitted by the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory as part of the High Resolution XBT Network for specific lines. These data also support the Ship of Opportunity (SOOP) and the Global Temperature-Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP).
Use Cases
- Analyzing ocean temperature variability based on data from specific XBT lines (AX7, AX10, AX97, MX2, MX4)
- Validating ocean circulation models based on temperature profiles from the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea
- Supporting the Global Temperature-Salinity Pilot Project (GTSPP) based on the described collection purpose
- Monitoring seasonal temperature changes in the Atlantic Ocean based on the April-June 2012 time range
Strengths
- 473 XBT casts provide a substantial sample of temperature profiles
- Data collected across multiple specific lines (AX7, AX10, AX97, MX2, MX4) in two ocean regions
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Last updated 2012-06-10 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
