Description
Water bottle cast data profiles were collected in the Arctic and North Atlantic Oceans from multiple platforms, including the R/V EVERGREEN, between July 1962 and October 1975. The dataset includes measurements for temperature, pH, salinity, and concentrations of nutrients and gases like phosphate, nitrate, oxygen, and chlorophyll a. Data were submitted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and are available in CSV format.
Use Cases
Analyzing long-term trends in nutrient concentrations (phosphate, nitrate, silicate) in Arctic waters.
Correlating temperature and salinity profiles with biological indicators like chlorophyll a.
Modeling historical dissolved oxygen levels and their relationship to other water column properties.
Studying the spatial and temporal distribution of ammonia and nitrite across the North Atlantic.
Strengths
Contains 13 years of continuous data collection from 1962 to 1975.
Profiles include multiple chemical and physical variables (e.g., temperature, salinity, 8 nutrient/gas concentrations).
Data originates from the authoritative Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
Limitations
Column names and exact row counts are unknown from all sources.
Conflicting last update dates: DataGov lists 2026-03 05 (likely a placeholder), while NASA Earthdata lists the collection end date of 1975-10-01.
