Description
NCEI Accession 0116716 contains chemical and physical oceanographic data collected from the RV FRANKLIN in the Great Australian Bight and Indian Ocean between November 12 and December 5, 1994. The data, collected by Matthias Tomczak of Flinders University of South Australia, include measurements of dissolved oxygen, hydrostatic pressure, nitrate, nitrite, salinity, water temperature, phosphate, and silicate using CTD and bottle instruments. This dataset was part of the PACIFICA project for synthesizing Pacific Ocean interior carbon data.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean carbon cycles based on dissolved oxygen and nutrient measurements.
Analyzing water column structure based on CTD-derived salinity and temperature profiles.
Studying nutrient distributions in coastal waters based on nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and silicate data.
Calibrating regional ocean models based on hydrographic data from the Great Australian Bight.
Strengths
Data includes multiple core oceanographic parameters: dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature, and nutrients.
Collection period is precisely defined from 1994-11-12 to 1994-12 05.
Data is associated with the international PACIFICA synthesis project and WOCE cruise S05.
