North Atlantic Ocean and North Pacific Ocean physical and chemical data collected via bottle casts from NOAA Ship MALCOLM BALDRIGE and other platforms between June 15, 1981 and April 25, 1994. The data were submitted by Dr. Richard A. Feely of the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). It includes measurements for temperature, salinity, oxygen, and various nutrients and carbon system parameters.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake based on dissolved inorganic carbon and pH measurements.
- Analyzing nutrient distributions and ocean productivity using nitrate, phosphate, and silicate data.
- Studying long-term changes in ocean temperature and salinity profiles.
- Calibrating satellite-derived ocean color data with in-situ oxygen and nutrient measurements.
Strengths
- Data spans a significant time period from 1981 to 1994, enabling decade-scale analysis.
- Covers a broad geographic scope including the North Atlantic Ocean and North Pacific Ocean.
- Includes a multi-parameter suite of physical and chemical measurements from a known source (PMEL).
Limitations
- Last updated 1994-04-25 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
