Carpentaria Submerged Coral Reef Discovery Video

Geoscience Australia surveys in 2003 and 2005 discovered submerged coral reefs in the Gulf of Carpentaria using multibeam sonar technology. The age of these previously unknown reefs was determined from drill-core samples via Uranium/Thorium dating at the Australian National University. This work identified a new coral reef province for management within Australia's marine zone.
