The Joseph Bonaparte Gulf in northern Australia is the focus of this study, which uses still imagery of the sea floor collected during two seabed mapping surveys in 2009 and 2010. The analysis characterizes benthic communities and correlates key sponge and octocoral species with abiotic variables like pheophytin, Si/Al ratio, and mud content. This dataset provides baseline information for marine monitoring and environmental impact assessments in a region proposed for protection.
