Description
Field surveys for this geological bulletin began in 1969 by combined parties of the Bureau of Mineral Resources and the Geological Survey of Queensland. The report synthesizes geological and geophysical information from the Jurassic-Cretaceous Carpentaria Basin and the overlying Cainozoic Karumba Basin in northern Queensland and eastern Northern Territory. Mapping was based on aerial photography at scales of 1:80,000 and 1:48,000, supplemented by Landsat imagery, stratigraphic drilling, and wire-line logging.
Use Cases
Map subsurface geological structures based on the described geophysical surveys.
Analyze basin evolution and stratigraphy using the synthesized geological information.
Correlate surface geology with subsurface data from the described wire-line logs and drilling.
Study landform and drainage patterns using the aerial photography and Landsat imagery mentioned.
Strengths
Synthesizes geological information collected during field surveys beginning in 1969.
Mapping utilized aerial photography at specific scales (1:80,000 RC9 Series, 1:48,000 K17 series) and Landsat imagery.
Data collection was supplemented by stratigraphic drilling, augering, and wire-line logging of water bores.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is delivered as PDF and HTML reports, which may require extraction for computational analysis.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale ML tasks.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network, Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR), Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ).
Collection Method
Field surveys, geological mapping using aerial photographs and Landsat imagery, supplemented by stratigraphic drilling and wire-line logging.
Time Range
Field surveys began in 1969; report covers geological periods from Jurassic to Cainozoic.
