Description
Fourteen fossil assemblages from the Bauhinia Downs 1:250,000 sheet area were collected during the 1960 field season. The data, published by Geoscience Australia, includes observations on lithology and paleogeography, with fossils ranging in age from Neocomian to Aptian. Seven assemblages are marine, six are non-marine, and one is inconclusive.
Use Cases
Classifying Mesozoic stratigraphic units based on described lithology and paleogeography.
Analyzing the distribution of marine versus non-marine environments in the Lower Cretaceous based on the 14 fossil assemblages.
Dating geological formations using the Neocomian to Aptian age range of the collected fossils.
Strengths
Data is based on field observations from a dedicated 1960 field season.
Includes 14 distinct fossil assemblages with age and environmental classifications (marine/non-marine).
Results are documented in published scientific papers (Skwarko 1961a, b).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to a single 1960s field season.
