Description
Lower Cretaceous strata in the Katherine and Fergusson River 1:250,000 Sheets area were examined during the 1960 and 1961 field seasons. Observations on lithology and palaeogeography, along with fossil identifications, were compiled into records by Skwarko (1961a,b). The dataset likely contains conclusions based on thirteen fossil assemblages, nine marine and four plant, ranging from Neocomian to uppermost Albian.
Use Cases
Analyzing lithology and palaeogeography based on field observations from the 1960s.
Studying fossil assemblages and dating based on the thirteen collections described.
Mapping Lower Cretaceous sediment distribution in the Katherine-Fergusson River area.
Strengths
Field observations were conducted over two dedicated seasons (1960 and 1961).
Conclusions are based on thirteen identified fossil assemblages.
The dataset provides a temporal range for the fossils, from Neocomian to uppermost Albian.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the 1960s collection period.
