Description
Over 40 species of marine macrofossils, most of them new, were identified from Lower Cretaceous strata examined during 1960 and 1961 field seasons. This record from the Australian Ocean Data Network contains field observations of lithological sequences, fossil collections, and plant remains from the Mt. Young 1:250,000 sheet area. The data is presented in PDF and HTML formats.
Use Cases
Analyzing lithological sequences and stratigraphy based on field observations.
Studying marine macrofossil diversity and taxonomy based on the identified species.
Dating Cretaceous strata based on fossil assemblages.
Researching paleoenvironments based on the inclusion of plant remains.
Strengths
Contains over 40 identified marine macrofossil species.
Based on direct field observations from two dedicated field seasons (1960, 1961).
Includes both marine fossil and plant fossil data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the 1960-1961 collection period.
