Western Torres Strait in northern Australia contains large barchan-shaped sand deposits. Satellite imagery shows these deposits migrate 10-15 meters west per year and exhibit features characteristic of both subaerial dunes and subaqueous sand banks. The dataset was published by the Australian Ocean Data Network and was last updated on 2026-06-16.
