Description
Atlantis II geophysical traverses and sediment cores provide new information on sedimentary and tectonic processes in the northeast Indian Ocean. Isopach maps show sediment thicknesses crudely parallel bathymetry, and the presence of probable diapirs is indicated. The dataset includes diverse cores such as siliceous clays, calcareous oozes, calcareous clays, manganese nodules, hyaloclastites, and a basalt sample.
Use Cases
Analyze sediment thickness distribution based on seismic profile-derived isopach maps.
Study sedimentary processes and composition based on diverse core samples including siliceous clays and calcareous oozes.
Investigate tectonic features like diapirs and basaltic structures based on geophysical survey data.
Model sulphate reduction in marine sediments based on evidence from calcareous clay cores.
Map the distribution of manganese nodules and hyaloclastites in abyssal and rise areas.
Strengths
Data includes a diverse group of sediment cores from various sites, including siliceous clays, calcareous oozes, calcareous clays, manganese nodules, hyaloclastites, and a basalt sample.
Geophysical traverses provide isopach maps showing sediment thickness distribution relative to bathymetry.
The dataset indicates the presence of probable diapirs in the Argo Abyssal Plain.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
