Soil samples were collected and analysed from three profiles across the Wright Valley to determine the abundance of sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, chloride and some minor elements in the salts. In all, 123 samples were collected with a 2cm2 corer and 650 analyses were performed on 80 of these. The dataset was last updated on 1973-01-19 23:59:59.999000.
Use Cases
- Modeling soil salt distribution based on ionic abundance measurements.
- Investigating mechanisms for sodium-calcium separation or exchange in Antarctic soils.
- Explaining differences in water chemistry between Taylor Valley and Wright Valley lakes based on soil salt data.
Strengths
- 123 soil samples collected with a standardized 2cm2 corer.
- 650 analyses performed on a subset of 80 samples, providing multiple data points per sample.
Limitations
- Last updated 1973-01-19 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
