Description
Transcriptional analysis data from kidneys of 77 mice (C57BL/6J and C3H/HeJ strains) flown on the Rodent Research-7 mission to the International Space Station. The dataset, provided by NASA's GeneLab, includes samples from flight groups after 25 and 75 days in space, plus three ground control groups (Basal, Vivarium, Ground). RNA was extracted, libraries generated, and sequenced in 2019.
Use Cases
Identify differential gene expression in kidney tissue based on spaceflight exposure duration (25 vs. 75 days).
Compare transcriptional responses between two genetically distinct mouse strains (C57BL/6J vs. C3H/HeJ).
Analyze the impact of simulated space habitat conditions using data from the Ground control group in the ISS Environment Simulator.
Investigate the interaction between spaceflight and circadian rhythm disruptions suggested by the mission's extended video collection protocol.
Strengths
Includes a controlled experimental design with three distinct ground control groups (Basal, Vivarium, Ground) for comparison.
Provides samples from two time points (25 and 75 days) for tracking temporal effects of spaceflight.
Uses two different mouse strains (C57BL/6J and C3H/HeJ), allowing for analysis of genetic background influence.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is stored in BIN format, which may require specialized tools for access and analysis.
