Description
ASAC Project 2179 data includes 60 terrestrial sediment samples from Wilkes and Thala Valley tip, 50 marine sediment samples, and 116 fresh and marine water samples collected near Casey Station, Antarctica. The data were sourced from project publications and archived in 2012, with formal GIS integration underway as of a 1998 progress report. The dataset was last updated on the platform in March 1998.
Use Cases
Modeling historical pollutant transport pathways based on sediment and water sample locations.
Comparing contamination levels between disposal sites and control sites like Robinsons Ridge and Jacks Donga.
Integrating point-source pollution data into a GIS for spatial analysis of the Casey Station area.
Strengths
Includes 226 total samples (60 terrestrial sediments, 50 marine sediments, 116 water samples).
Provides control site data from Robinsons Ridge and Jacks Donga for comparison.
