Description
British Geological Survey data from triaxial compressive strength tests on salt samples collected from the Northwich Halite Member at Winsford Mine, Cheshire, UK. Experiments were conducted between July 2022 and August 2023 in the Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory. The dataset is organized into individual Excel files per test, containing parameters such as time, force, stress, displacement, and strain.
Use Cases
Modeling salt rock constitutive behavior based on triaxial compressive strength data
Analyzing the effect of varying strain rates on material strength based on described test conditions
Investigating the influence of confining pressure on mechanical response based on conventional triaxial stress conditions
Calibrating numerical simulations for salt caverns or mines based on laboratory-measured stress-strain data
Strengths
Data originates from the authoritative British Geological Survey Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory
Experiments were conducted over two defined testing campaigns between July 2022 and August 2023
Dataset includes a summary file detailing sample characteristics and test conditions
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Provenance
Source
British Geological Survey (BGS)
Collection Method
Laboratory experiments using a servo-controlled stiff load frame under conventional triaxial stress conditions
