Description
2009 and 2010 satellite data acquisitions from ALOS, GEOSAT-1, and KOMPSAT-2 were harmonized by the European Space Agency (ESA) to support a 2010 global forest assessment. The project delivered ortho-rectified imagery for 1,866 sites at 1-degree intersections across Tropical Latin America and Tropical South/Southeast Asia, covering 94.7% of its target. This dataset was created for the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to establish deforestation benchmark rates.
Use Cases
Establishing regional deforestation benchmark rates based on the 2010 forest assessment data.
Analyzing tropical forest cover change using harmonized, ortho-rectified optical imagery from multiple satellites.
Supporting land-use and forest monitoring models for Tropical Latin America and Tropical South/Southeast Asia.
Strengths
Covers 1,866 specific geographic sites at 1-degree lat/long intersections.
Imagery is harmonized and pre-processed (ortho-rectified) for ready-to-use analysis.
Combines data from three distinct satellite systems (ALOS, GEOSAT-1, KOMPSAT-2).
Limitations
