Description
Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention. This dataset from the Joint Nature Conservation Committee lists adverse natural or human-caused factors affecting all designated Ramsar sites within the UK and its Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. The data, last updated in April 2016, includes factors reported as still operating or not effectively managed, along with conservation measures taken.
Use Cases
Analyze the prevalence of different adverse factors across UK wetlands based on the reported categories.
Track the status of management efforts for reported adverse factors based on the control categories described.
Identify historical factors that have been addressed based on the inclusion of previously reported issues.
Support conservation planning by reviewing the described measures taken for category 2 factors.
Strengths
Covers all designated Ramsar sites within the UK and its Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.
Includes both current adverse factors and historical factors that have been addressed.
Provides explanatory categories for factor status (e.g., 'still operating', 'not effectively managed').
Limitations
Data have not been updated since 2005 except for new site designations, as of April 2016.
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description notes that some minor adverse factors may not be listed.
