Description
UKCP09 25 km gridded data provides monthly, seasonal, and annual long-term averages for mean sea-level pressure. The data covers the 1961-1990 climate baseline period, with each 25 x 25 km grid box value representing an average of underlying 5 x 5 km cells. This dataset was created with financial support from the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is promoted by the UK Climate Impacts Programme.
Use Cases
Analyzing seasonal pressure patterns across the UK based on the provided monthly and seasonal averages.
Validating regional climate models using the 1961-1990 long-term average baseline data.
Studying atmospheric circulation over the UK based on gridded sea-level pressure data.
Creating climate baseline maps for impact assessments based on the 25km resolution grid.
Strengths
Provides a consistent 30-year climate baseline (1961-1990) for analysis.
Data is available at multiple temporal aggregations: 12 monthly files, 4 seasonal files, and 1 annual file.
Grid values are derived from a higher-resolution 5km model, likely improving representativeness.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific 1961-1990 baseline period.
