Description
2004/2005 Austral summer measurements of spectral radiation, absorption coefficients, volume scattering function, chlorophyll a concentration, phytoplankton pigments concentration (HPLC), and transparency in the Southern Ocean. The data were collected during the cruise of TR/V Umitaka-Maru. Seawater samples were obtained from several depths using a Niskin bottle on a CTD system.
Use Cases
Modeling underwater light fields based on spectral radiation and volume scattering function data.
Analyzing phytoplankton biomass and community structure based on chlorophyll a and HPLC pigment concentrations.
Studying water clarity and optical properties based on absorption coefficients and transparency measurements.
Calibrating satellite ocean color algorithms based on in-situ optical and biological profiles.
Strengths
Data includes multiple co-located optical and biological parameters for the Southern Ocean.
Samples were collected from several depths using a standardized CTD and Niskin bottle system.
Temporal coverage is specified as the 2004/2005 Austral summer.
