Description
From 2021-04-23 to 2021-04-28, raw underway data was collected aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson in the Gulf of Alaska and North Pacific Ocean. The dataset includes biological, chemical, meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System. NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations submitted the data and associated cruise-level metadata to the National Centers for Environmental Information via the Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling oceanographic conditions based on the described physical and chemical time series data.
Analyzing biological activity patterns in the Gulf of Alaska based on the described biological data.
Correlating meteorological and navigational data for ship-track environmental studies.
Validating satellite-derived oceanographic measurements with in-situ optical and physical data.
Strengths
Data spans multiple oceanographic domains: biological, chemical, meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical.
Includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Collected via an automated archival process under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
