Description
NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer collected raw underway biological, meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean from 2021-03-15 to 2021 03-16. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel submitted the data and metadata to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) via an automated process under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program. The accession includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere interactions based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Studying marine biological distributions based on logged biological observations.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their correlation with environmental measurements.
Calibrating optical sensors using the logged optical data streams.
Strengths
Data is sourced from a dedicated NOAA research vessel, the Okeanos Explorer.
Includes multiple integrated data types (biological, meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) from a single cruise.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data collection period is precisely defined as 2021-03-15 to 2021-03-16.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
