Description
Raw underway biological, meteorological, navigational, optical, physical and time series data collected aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson. The data was logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System in the Coastal Waters of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia from 2021-02-18 to 2021-02 19. NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations submitted the data and associated metadata to the National Centers for Environmental Information via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Analyze biological and physical oceanographic time series based on the logged underway data.
Correlate meteorological conditions with optical measurements based on the multi-sensor data collection.
Model ship navigation tracks and their environmental context based on the navigational and positional data.
Validate automated data archiving processes for underway ship data based on the NOAA R2R program metadata.
Strengths
Data includes multiple concurrent measurement types: biological, meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data collection is precisely dated from 2021-02-18 to 2021-02-19.
Data originates from a NOAA research vessel with an automated archiving process via the NOAA R2R program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
