Description
Coastal waters of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia are the region for raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data logged aboard the NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada. The data were collected from February 19 to 22, 2019, and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel. This accession also includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log, archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling coastal atmospheric conditions based on underway meteorological data.
Analyzing ship navigation and track patterns based on logged navigational data.
Studying short-term physical oceanographic variability based on time series physical data.
Correlating optical measurements with other environmental parameters based on optical data mentioned in the description.
Strengths
Data includes multiple concurrent measurement types: meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data is part of a formal, automated archiving program (NOAA R2R).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
