Description
Raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada. The data was collected in the North Pacific Ocean from March 20 to April 20, 2017, and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel. Supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log is also included, archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with oceanographic readings based on the described underway data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their environmental context based on the navigational and time series data.
Validating or calibrating shipboard sensor systems using the described optical and physical measurements.
Studying temporal variability in the North Pacific Ocean during spring based on the month-long time series.
Strengths
Data collection spans a defined one-month period from 2017-03-20 to 2017-04 20.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical, as described.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Limitations
