Description
From 2017-04 27 to 2017-05-11, raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data were logged aboard the NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada in the North Pacific Ocean. The data were submitted by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel and archived by the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with physical oceanographic measurements based on the described underway data streams.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and environmental conditions in the North Pacific Ocean based on the logged navigational and meteorological data.
Studying time-series data continuity and sensor performance for scientific computer systems aboard research vessels.
Strengths
Data collection is tied to a specific NOAA research vessel and cruise, providing a clear provenance.
Includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Data were archived through an automated process under the NOAA R2R program, suggesting a degree of standardization.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
