Description
NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data in the North Pacific Ocean from 2018-11-12 to 2018-11-21. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data, which was logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System and archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program. The dataset includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with oceanographic parameters based on the described underway data collection.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and environmental sensor readings based on the logged navigational and time series data.
Modeling short-term physical oceanographic processes in the North Pacific based on the 10-day time series.
Validating automated data archiving pipelines for shipboard scientific systems based on the NOAA R2R program process.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 10-day cruise from 2018-11-12 to 2018-11-21.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Collected and archived through an established automated process (NOAA R2R).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
