Description
NOAA Ship Nancy Foster collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data in the North Atlantic Ocean from June 2 to June 15, 2013. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System to the National Oceanographic Data Center. The archive also includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log, processed through the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with oceanographic readings based on the described underway data collection.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their environmental context based on the logged navigational and time-series data.
Calibrating or validating optical sensor models using the described optical data streams.
Studying short-term physical oceanography processes in a specific region based on the two-week cruise data.
Strengths
Data originates from a NOAA research vessel, suggesting institutional collection standards.
Includes multiple data streams (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) for a single cruise, allowing for cross-domain analysis.
Cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log provides additional context for the time-series.
