Description
NCEI Accession 0170551 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard NOAA Ship Oregon II. The data was collected in the Gulf of Mexico over a two-day period from September 2 to September 3, 2017, and submitted by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with oceanographic readings based on the described time series data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their environmental context based on the navigational and positional data.
Validating satellite-derived oceanographic or atmospheric models using the in-situ physical and optical measurements.
Studying short-term environmental variability in the Gulf of Mexico based on the high-frequency underway data collection.
Strengths
Data originates from a NOAA research vessel, suggesting institutional credibility.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) collected simultaneously.
Cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log is included, providing operational context.
Limitations
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
