Description
NCEI Accession 0169397 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data logged aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson. The data was collected in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska, and North Pacific Ocean from August 21 to September 15, 2017. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data and supplementary cruise-level metadata as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling marine weather patterns based on underway meteorological data.
Analyzing ship navigation and track data for oceanographic research vessel operations.
Studying optical and physical ocean properties from time-series sensor readings.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 26-day cruise in a key oceanographic region (Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska, North Pacific).
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) logged from a single platform.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
