Description
NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data in the Coastal Waters of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia, Gulf of Alaska, and North Pacific Ocean from 2018-01-28 to 2019-04-17. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data, which was logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System and archived by NCEI via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program. The dataset also includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Use Cases
Modeling regional weather patterns based on the described meteorological data.
Analyzing ship navigation and ocean currents based on the navigational data.
Studying ocean optical properties based on the optical data mentioned.
Correlating physical oceanographic variables with time series for climate research.
Strengths
Data spans a 15-month period from January 2018 to April 2019.
Covers multiple geographic regions: Southeast Alaska, British Columbia, Gulf of Alaska, and North Pacific Ocean.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical, as described.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
