Description
NCEI Accession 0201818 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard NOAA Ship Oscar Elton Sette. The data were collected in the North Pacific Ocean during a cruise from August 13 to September 4, 2019, and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling air-sea heat and moisture fluxes based on the meteorological data mentioned in the description.
Analyzing ship track and ocean current correlations based on the navigational data.
Calibrating satellite-derived ocean color products based on the optical data.
Studying short-term oceanic variability in the North Pacific based on the physical and time-series data.
Strengths
Data collection is tied to a specific NOAA research vessel and cruise, providing clear provenance.
Includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data were archived via an automated process under the NOAA R2R program, suggesting standardized handling.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count, file formats, and data size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
