Description
NCEI Accession 0170699 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data logged aboard NOAA Ship Reuben Lasker. The data was collected in the North Pacific Ocean from July 25 to August 8, 2016, and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel. The dataset includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log, archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program.
Use Cases
Modeling marine meteorological conditions based on the described underway meteorological data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns in the North Pacific Ocean based on the navigational data.
Studying oceanographic time series for physical and optical properties mentioned in the description.
Validating automated data logging and archival processes like the NOAA R2R program.
Strengths
Data collection is tied to a specific NOAA research vessel and cruise, providing clear provenance.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) logged as a time series.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
