Description
From 2018-02 27 to 2018-04-14, raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical time series data were logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard the NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown in the Indian, North Atlantic, and South Atlantic Oceans. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data and associated metadata to NCEI as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship navigation and track patterns based on logged navigational data.
Studying optical properties of seawater based on the optical data mentioned in the description.
Correlating environmental conditions with ship operations based on supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Strengths
Data collection spans multiple ocean basins (Indian, North Atlantic, South Atlantic).
Includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data is part of the automated NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository archival program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
