Description
NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data in the Coastal Waters of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia and the North Pacific Ocean from 2017-09-18 to 2017-09-29. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted these data and associated metadata to NCEI via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) automated archiving program.
Use Cases
Modeling coastal atmospheric conditions based on underway meteorological data.
Analyzing ship track navigation and oceanographic profile data for route optimization studies.
Studying temporal physical oceanographic changes based on the time series data mentioned.
Correlating optical measurements with biological or sediment transport phenomena in coastal waters.
Strengths
Data spans a specific 12-day cruise from 2017-09 18 to 2017-09-29.
Includes multiple data types logged by the Scientific Computer System (SCS): meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
