Description
NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile and time series data in the North Pacific Ocean from 2017-01-12 to 2017-02 12. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel aboard the ship submitted the data and metadata to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The data were archived through an automated process under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological and physical oceanographic conditions based on the described underway sensor data.
Analyzing navigational patterns and environmental time series for a specific research cruise.
Developing automated data ingestion pipelines for ship-logged scientific computer system (SCS) outputs.
Studying oceanographic profiles collected during a one-month period in the North Pacific.
Strengths
Data collection spans a defined one-month period from 2017-01-12 to 2017 -02-12.
Includes multiple data types logged by a Scientific Computer System (SCS), suggesting integrated sensor readings.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from a Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
